Helena, Mont. – Vocal Credit Union is proud to announce it has received a Low-Income Designation (LID) from the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) and the State of Montana, marking a significant milestone in the credit union’s ongoing commitment to serving its community.
This designation is awarded to credit unions that serve predominantly low-income members and demonstrates Vocal Credit Union’s deep dedication to providing accessible, affordable financial services to individuals and families who need them most.
With the Low-Income Designation, Vocal Credit Union gains access to additional resources and opportunities that will enhance its ability to support members, including eligibility for grants and low-cost funding through programs such as the Community Development Financial Institutions Fund (CDFI Fund), as well as increased flexibility in accepting non-member deposits.
“This designation reflects who we are at our core,” said Eddie Black, CEO. President of Vocal Credit Union. “We believe that financial services should be inclusive, empowering, and accessible to all. The Low-Income Designation strengthens our ability to expand that mission and invest even more deeply in the financial well-being of our members and the Helena community.”
The designation will allow Vocal Credit Union to further expand its offerings, including:
- Affordable lending options designed to meet diverse financial needs
- Financial education and coaching programs
- Enhanced community partnerships and outreach initiatives
Credit unions with a Low-Income Designation play a critical role in advancing financial inclusion by serving populations that may otherwise have limited access to traditional financial institutions.
“Being recognized by both the NCUA and the State of Montana affirms the work our team does every day,” added Black. “We are honored to continue serving our members with purpose and to build pathways toward greater financial stability and opportunity.”
Vocal Credit Union remains committed to strengthening the financial lives of its members and contributing to the vitality of the communities it serves.
